TEHRAN (IQNA) – Canada said it rejects Israeli annexation of West Bank territory as contrary to international law.

This came during in a telephone conversation between Palestinian Authority Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Riyad Malki and his Canadian counterpart, Francois Philippe Champagne, who indicated that his country has expressed this position against the annexation plan to the Israeli prime minister and foreign minister.

Champagne told Malki that if Canada is elected as a member of the United Nations Security Council, it will not remain silent, but rather will speak out for peace and stability in the Middle East, and that Canada will work with the Palestinian and Israeli parties to achieve the desired peace, Wafa news agency reported.

Malki stressed the need for Canada to continue to exert pressure on Israel to prevent it from carrying out the annexation plan even if this leads to the threat of taking action against it, including sanctions.

The two ministers also discussed bilateral relations, which they expressed desire to develop, as well as the coronavirus pandemic and means to fight it.

Malki briefed his counterpart on the financial situation in Palestine as a result of the coronavirus pandemic and Israeli policies that obstruct Palestinian economic development and prevent the Palestinian government from paying salaries of its employees.
